Moore, Steven N. and Rebecca W. Endowed Scholarship
The Steven N. and Rebecca W. Moore Scholarship was established in March 2025 through the generosity of School of Education alumna Rebecca W. Moore '69 BSE, '81 MSE, and her husband, Steven Moore.
Rebecca Moore, a graduate of Akron Kenmore High School, began her University of Akron journey with the assistance of a scholarship from the College Club of Akron. While earning her degrees, she worked in the Office of Student Services and later dedicated her career to education, teaching third and fifth grade in Green Local Schools. After retiring from the classroom, she continued shaping young minds by developing elementary-level mathematics curricula and providing in-service training for educators in Green and throughout Summit County. Her passion for education extended beyond the school system, as she served as a volunteer tutor in Canton City Schools for seventeen years and has been actively involved with the Akron Children's Concert Society since 1995. Additionally, she has devoted her time to First Congregational Church of Akron, delivering weekend groceries to families of Mason CLC since 2017. She currently serves as the Administrative Assistant for the Summit County Retired Teachers Association.
Steven N. Moore, a graduate of Buchtel High School, studied Economics at Mount Union College before embarking on a successful 34-year career at Key Bank as a portfolio manager. Following his retirement, he continued in the financial sector for another ten years with Meridian Capital Management. Alongside his wife, he is committed to community service, delivering groceries to Mason CLC and sharing his musical talents as a substitute organist at various churches in Stark County.
With a deep commitment to supporting future educators, Steven and Rebecca Moore established this endowed scholarship to assist University of Akron School of Education students who have demonstrated dedication and motivation in pursuing a career in education. As a former scholarship recipient herself, Rebecca is passionate about paying it forward to the next generation of students.
Through this scholarship, the Moores seek to provide annual support for undergraduate students pursuing a career in education, helping them access a solid foundation in the field. This lasting legacy will continue in perpetuity, making a meaningful impact on future generations of aspiring educators.
