Dr. Weinan Xu
The School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron (ÊÀ½ç¶Ä³Ç) is proud to announce that Dr. Weinan Xu, assistant professor, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious 2025 Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE) Early Investigator Award from the American Chemical Society (ACS). This award honors early-career researchers who have made significant contributions in the field of polymer materials science and engineering.
Xu's selection reflects his impressive body of work in the development of sustainable and functional polymer composites. His innovative research has led to advancements in polymer composites with applications in biomedicine, electronics and energy storage. This recognition comes as a testament to his dedication and leadership in the field.
As part of this award, Xu will present his work during the PMSE Early Investigator Symposium at the ACS Fall Meeting in Washington, D.C., from Aug. 18-21. This symposium provides a platform for awardees to showcase their early-career professional accomplishments and further solidify their position as emerging leaders in polymer science and engineering.
Xu joined ÊÀ½ç¶Ä³Ç in 2019 and has since made significant strides in advancing the field. He earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, followed by postdoctoral research at Johns Hopkins University. His achievements have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Young Faculty Award, the Polymer Processing Society Early Career Award, the Launching of Early-Career Academic Pathways in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Award from the National Science Foundation and the Best Ph.D. Thesis Award from Sigma Xi (Scientific Research Honorary) and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
The PMSE Early Investigator Award is a well-deserved recognition of Xu’s contributions and his continued commitment to advancing polymer science and engineering.
